Suppressor-Height Sights and Co-Witness Explained

Explained
Suppressor-height sights and co-witness
Standard iron sights sit below a red dot and you cannot see them through the window. Taller "suppressor-height" sights fix that, so you have a backup if the dot ever goes down.
Standard sights Suppressor height What you see Standard: irons hidden below the window. Suppressor height: irons show in the lower window.
Absolute co-witness
The irons line up right where the dot sits. Simple, but the irons take up more of the window.
Lower 1/3
The irons sit in the bottom third of the window, leaving more glass clear above the dot.

Which one you get depends on the optic height, plate or cut depth, and the sight height. A direct milled cut sits the dot lower, so it is easier to co-witness.

Key takeaways
  • Taller irons let you see them through the dot window.
  • Absolute = irons on the dot; lower 1/3 = irons low in the window.
  • A lower-mounted dot (direct cut) makes co-witness easier.
