Slide Porting Explained: How It Works and Is It Worth It?
Our service
What slide porting does and is it worth it?
Porting cuts vents in the barrel and slide so gas exits upward and pushes the muzzle down. Here is how it works, the trade-offs and the patterns we offer.
| Pros | Trade-offs |
|---|---|
| Less muzzle rise | More flash and noise directed upward |
| Faster dot recovery between shots | Avoid firing from tight retention positions near your face |
| Custom look | Ports collect carbon and need cleaning |
| Works with your existing slide | Some guns may need ammo or spring testing to run reliably |
Our port patterns
Key takeaways
- Ports redirect gas up to fight muzzle rise.
- Best for competition and range guns; think it through for close-contact carry.
- We machine it in Garden Grove; mail in your slide and barrel.
No coating servicesWe do not offer Cerakote, DLC, PVD or any other coating. Turnaround times at third-party coating companies vary widely, so we keep coating out of our process to keep your turnaround fast and predictable. Your parts come back with bare steel in the machined areas. Protect it with a cold blue such as Birchwood Casey Perma Blue, or send it to the refinisher of your choice after we return it.
Mail in your slide and barrel. About 2 weeks turnaround.
